Things that drive you crazy

Between St. Louis and Columbia, at an exit called "High Hill," there are two abandoned buildings which were former restaurant/gas roadside stops. One was a Stuckey's, which is famous for the pecan logs.* The other one is this:

I can't remember the name of this franchise. You used to see them across the country, almost as prevalent as Stuckey's... only sans pecan logs. It seemed like a German or Swiss name, but it escapes me.

Can you help a guy out? Otherwise, I will have to continue passing this sonofabitch and beating my steering wheel in frustration.

*I never had one of those pecan logs. They sound pretty gross.

You are so going to laugh, I lived in Jonesburg, my best friends in High Hill and we went to school in Montgomery City (years ago I won't tell how many)

My mom says that it was a Nickerson Farms. I know it was a restaraunt of some sort. We never stopped there to eat (Who would eat in High Hill when you lived in the metropolis of Jonesburg? LOL).

Check out this link: http://static.flickr.com/27/52279652_31c7f3a82d_m.jpg I found this picture when I Googled Nickerson Farms. Guess mom was right!
Hope this helps!

Isn't it the old IHOP's or some kind of pancake house. THey use to have one in Independence off 40 hwy and Noland and it looked just like that. Do I get a prize if I guessed right??

I'm pretty sure Nickerson Farms is right. It's what came to mind first, anyway.

I have no idea - but I don't think that I would eat at a place that serves peacan logs...

Aw man, Beckyd nailed it!

Now that you've sorted out that dilemma, Dave - what else makes you smash your steeing wheel?

(by the way, pecan logs ROCK)

It was most definitely a Nickerson Farms. Stuckey's and Nickerson Farms competed hard for the highway traveler back in the day before places like Phillips 66 Fastlanes and the huge mongo McStops made their appearence. I remembering pulling into that one back in 83 or 84 while driving back from Jefferson City one Memorial Day weekend. I was starting to weave all over the road from tiredness and I saw salvation at that exit. I grabbed a soda and a Milky Way bar to complete my travel back to Kirkwood. Ah, the memories...

Long time reader (and listener from back a few years) and first time poster. I almost walked the block down the street the other week when you were holding court in the lot next to Tums before the ball game.

Hello all, this is indeed an old Nickerson Farms Resturant. In fact it was one of the first built. There were about 80 total across the midwest with a couple in Arizona. There were actually 12 in Missouri and most of them still stand. I worked at Phillipsburg Mo as a kid and now collect all Nickersons. I have a database of all which existed as well as their current condition. My wife calls it an obsession, but I now it is just a hobby.
