Just saw a headline that caught my attention

Nike Inc. jet with landing gear trouble preparing to make emergency landing
So I clicked the link and the first paragraph read:
PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 21 — A Nike Inc. corporate jet carrying seven people developed landing gear problems shortly after takeoff Monday and was preparing to make an emergency landing, officials said. Neither Nike founder Phil Knight nor any sports stars were on board, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.
So you're telling me that nobody with a big name is on board? Whew, great news. I can now rest, knowing that nobody important will be dying. (!!!)

This bothered me enough to actually post something. Is it just me who is completely offended by this shoddy journalism?

I agree with you Dave. Oh darn, just regular people on board. Maybe if Michael Jordan was on board people would care. Bologna. Every life is the same no matter if one is a celebrity or not. Boy that lights a spark under my ass.

Yes, that is totally offensive. How insensitive can people be?

The "importent" people were riding United first class.

Creepy.... but nice to meet you Dave...I came via Weary Hag's. I enjoyed reading your overview post above.

I swear to you, I created a post about this very topic a long while ago and never put it up because well ... it was a bit crass ... even for me. Perhaps an edit here and there and I'll throw it onto the Outpost sometime soon.

This ticks me off and if you look at the bigger picture, we're all guilty of doing this.

You are not alone and I think that if it hadn't been the Nike jet we wouldn't have even heard of it...

It's just a symptom of current society. You can't be important unless you throw a ball in a hoop or hit homeruns...we idolize the wrong people...

Circuit City did the same thing here when a plane had some issues. The reporter said that Circuit City had released a statement that no high level executives were on board, thankfully, so investors should not be worried.

The families of the people on board? Screw em.
