Blogging and Crashing

My friend Steve Mays and I had lunch and a few beers last weekend, and got into a fascinating conversation about blogging, podcasting and the media.

I will let you check his site for his opinions on most of it, but he told me of a theory he's developed which he calls the "48 hour rule." It basically says that when a person begins a blog and fails to write anything past the first entry within 48 hours, their blog will eventually fail for lack of interest.

We also discussed how some people burn out on blogging because of self-imposed pressure. They develop anxiety about the pithiness of their pieces, believing each must be earth-shattering or deeply meaningful.

I don't need to tell you I DON'T have that type of anxiety. Sometimes I have nothing on my mind, so I post something about blogging theories and having beers with a friend...

I went with a friend to see Wedding Crashers last night and was pleasantly surprised. This movie is very well done! I found new respect for the comic prowess of Vince Vaughn, who even upstaged Owen Wilson 0n this one.

The surprise of the film is an unannounced appearance by Will Farrell, who plays a seasoned wedding crasher that sets the standards for the "industry."

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Four out of five stars.

I'm with you...blogging should be fun, not a job. I try to post something everyday Monday - Friday, but it doesn't have to always be insightful. Saturdays and Sundays are off days because most of my fellow bloggers take that time off as well.

When I saw Wedding Crashers, I too was pleasantly surprised. I thought it would be funny, but I too laughed sooooo hard. I can't remember laughing that hard at anything for awhile either. I will definitely be adding that one to my collection of DVDs.

You mean we don't always have to post meaningful pieces? [clicks tongue] And to think how profound my current post is.

As to frequency, the second I start getting paid to blog, I'll let my new boss tell me how often to post.

{side note: you probably ARE more saved than me...does that one-up the whole Rod Stewart thing now? Dang.)

When I started my blog, I was an infrequent poster. Very infrequent. Now I try to update 4 times a week. Sometimes it's more;sometimes it's less. Usually, it's while drunk...

My blog gets updated when I get to it. I don't stress it. Sometimes I update on request, sometimes when I'm bored, sometimes when I can't sleep, and sometimes when I have something to get off my chest. I don't spend any time analyzing why I do it, I just do it. Me and Nike I guess. I want to see the Wedding Crashers and you have just convinced me that I will.

Dang it Dave. Now you've done it! RCS is gonna drag me out to see Wedding Crashers now. Sheesh! ;0) I really don't suffer from any anxiety when it comes to my blog. I haven't been able to update for a while now due mostly to the move and still no stress! I have however developed this uncontrillable shaking and itching as well as a fairly obnoxious twitching eye. No real stress though, see you should be more like me!!
