Why I love blogging, and people who blog

Honesty.

There are those who blog hatred, BS or spam, but most are here to tell a story, make their mark, or just say their piece... it's important for we Sapiens to know that someone hears us, and hopefully, understands.

A friend of mine, Steve Mays, (also the guy who got me interested in blogging) wrote something on his blog recently, which moved me and bears repeating here. It was a simple sentence, part of a bigger story about a family visit:

"Being with my brother and his family has a calming and healing
effect on me. I suspect that's true for everybody around him."

I don't want to get too mushy here, but I think there is no nobler goal in life than to affect people in this way. Reading Steve's words made me wonder if (and hope) someone, somewhere, feels that way about me.

These kinds of words, and the feelings they provoke, are why I blog. And, why I read blogs like Steve's. Read it when you get a chance. Great balance and honesty.

You're definitely one of those people Dave!

You know, I get asked in "real life" why I blog all the time, and I've never been able to put into words. You've captured it right here. I've only been able to describe it as an outlet for my emotions.

I'll be checking out your friend now too.

Sometimes in my busy life I forget to remember that everyone else is struggling too and doing the best they can.

Whenever I can, I try to remember to stop and look at them and strip away the judgment and the annoyance I feel at the ways they inconvenience me ...

and forget my pride,

and the perceived weakness of letting all of the act drop away.

... and I just stop, and allow myself to see their humanity.

And in that instant I feel such love for them, for mankind, for this short life.

And I wonder why I try so hard to pretend that I am so strong and that nothing can touch me.

When really every person touches me and we only have this one short life after all.

Why are we wasting time pretending to have such thick skins when letting go and showing your humanity and really telling your truth ... feels like a bell being rung for the first time.

Isn't that a bell that we all would want to hear?

Thank you for your very special post.

Nice post, Dave. Wonderful sentiment. My daughter's friends are always in our house. She told me one time that her friends love to be here, that it's a happy place. I was so struck to know that. I don't know why they feel that way, but I'm happy they do.

p.s. never pass on an opportunity to say something to make someone's day.

Did I mention that you make me giggle like no one else does?

Nice post. You are always a good read, no worries there.

I blog because I love to write, and hope others find what I have to say is interesting. I have always keep a journal (since I was 12 so that is a long time in dog years), and I guess blogging is like journaling for me but obviously stuff that I can share.

I agree with what you said. I don't think there is anything better than to have such a positive impact on people.

Touching lives and souls.

That's what it is all about.

Not the Hokey Pokey.

I swear I spend more time reading blogs than watching TV. And it's for just that reason...honesty.

It's true that when you filter out the hate and the spam you see that most people are using the quasi-anonymity of blogs to express things they can't in their daily life or, in my case, to dredge up memories so I won't forget my own life.
