Time and Tauri

Today is Thursday, April 6.

April. SIXTH. Did you get that?

I just realized when I woke up this morning that it's not January, which feels right. It's April.

I can't remember if the "time flies" concept faded into existence, or if there was an event that started it - such as graduating school or my daughter's birth - but I know that things are moving far too fast. I want less drama and more relaxation, but being settled seems to move time even faster... so maybe a heavy workload and constant personal issues are my ally. I dunno.

My daughter received her early birthday gift yesterday, a 1994 Ford Taurus, her first car. She's really happy, and that's therapeutic for me. Her mother and I bought it from a private party, the stereotypical "little old lady," age 90, who had kept it in the garage, and only put 67,000 miles on it.

Her mother negotiated the deal, and it turns out we got totally hosed! This old broad knew how to work it. According to www.kbb.com, it's worth about $1,800. We ended up paying $2,500, because "someone had offered her $3,000." And, as part of the deal, my daughter has to take this woman to the doctor whenever she needs to go... which at that age, could be twice a week. I'm telling you, we got completely screwed on this deal.

I bet that woman is a total cutthroat witch at the Bingo table.

I have a really crazy day, so I'm out. The good news is, maybe the day will go by slow.

You could always instruct your daughter to drop the old beotch off at a proctologist's office the first time she need's a lift to the doctor.

She could tell her "Don't worry, they'll just stick something where the sun doesn't shine .. you know, kinda like what you did to us."

Ooooooooh, Dave. From a legal standpoint? I don't know that I would have negotiated such a deal. See, say your daughter has (God forbid) a car accident with said biddy in the vehicle. Even the most mild of fender benders could send an 80 year old body into pain. Now, if this happens, you have just put this old woman in the position to sue either you or your ex. Your daughter, if she is under 18 would be held blameless. Over 18? Her name will be on the lawsuit as well. If your daughter is over 18, she can probably undo this transaction in a small claims court. If she isn't, well...I'd suggest to you that her mother be at the beck and call of the biddy, not your daughter. It's a hard lesson learned, but if this woman ass raped you guys the way she did, sounds like she'd have NO issue taking you into court for pain and suffering.

You might want to consult an attorney and see if you can get out of this deal, Dave. It sounds like a bad situation that has the potential to get much worse.

Sidebar? What the hell was your daughters mother thinking??? *L*

One more point? A woman that age will not go to the doctor twice a week. As a nurse who works with an entirely geriatric population, I can assure you that some of these elderly folks go to two doctors A DAY! They plan their schedules around their doctors. They plan meals around their doctors. And, now that she knows she has her own private cabbie? Oh Lord...she will make your daughters life hell.

Honestly? My kid? My situation?

I'd return the car and take the monetary loss. You don't want to put that kind of responsibility on a teenager. Trust me.

Damn Dave. Too bad I couldn't have sold you my old '95 Taurus back in January. It only had 63,000 miles and I traded in (aka GAVE) for only $1900.

Yes, I do indeed drive like a Granny.

Dave, look on the bright side. You think your daughter is going to get into trouble when she's transporting an old lady around town? You paid $700 in teen stupidity insurance, my friend. That's brilliant!

While all her friends are getting knocked up and killing their fathers with stress, your daughter will be politely arguing that, no, it is actually OK to turn right on red.

Wow, your daughter got a Taurus for her birthday...she must be ecstatic. I will never forget the look on my daughter's face when I picked her up after dance team practice in her 16th birthday present. It was a Saturn. My son's was a Jeep.
Yes, you are right, time flies!

The old Ford Taurus. Built like a tank and PERFECT for a 16 year old!!!

I drove a big ass car like that too... as my parents found it safe.

Bad news though Dave... I could fit 3 in the front, 5 in the back, and 4 in the trunk ;).

How's the old blood pressure holding up?
