Hey Olga...

I turned on the television tonight, and got a hearty, unexpected laugh. The news anchor was introducing the meteorologist, a black girl named...

... Olga Breese.

A weather person by the name of Breese. A black girl named Olga. I thought it was funny.

Most air personalities choose stage names, so we can carry on like drunkards and pillagers without being outed. Do you really think Wolfman Jack's name was Jack?

Prior to my arrival on the airwaves of St. Louis, my general manager chose my air name and sent it via press release to all the newspapers and television stations. The name he chose - McDonnell Douglas.  Named after an aviation company based here. He felt it would be a neat local tie-in.

Alas, it was not meant to be. He had to go fish the press releases out of the mail bin after discovering there was already a McDonnell Douglas on the air in St. Louis. Captain Mac Douglas, a traffic guy.

Life's just too funny to make shit up.

There is/was a dj around here named Paige Turner. Her mom must have been a librarian.

So do you have a name now that you use that is not your own?

Yeah, heck, I snorted wine cooler when I first heard the name "Dave Morris." There is lots of merriment everywhere.

One of my friends that was on my swim team growing up was Lori Jones. Her radio name is Shannon Stevens. After knowing that, I had wondered a while back if Dave is your real name or a radio name.

I still have trouble not laughing out loud when CNN (I think) calls upon Sonya Bahgdaddy. This one is so outrageous that it simply HAS to be real. Cripes.

As an "insider" I can tell you that -- believe it or not -- her name is really Olga. She is named after her grandmother.

I went to high school with two girls with "incredible but true" names: Sultan Pepper (who chose to be called Sue) and Joy Noel!

I went to high school and college with Olga. I gather that's her married name. She's a fantastic and extremely smart person. Some of your commenters seem to forget that those on TV are real people. They have families, they go to church, they have feelings just like everyone else. Maybe you could delete the comments that are verging on the obscene or insulting.

No deletions necessary - all in good fun, anonymous. One must enjoy the humor of a weather person named Breese.

It's been a while ago, but if I remember correctly, she did a great job on the weather. Very likeable presence.
