It's hard to believe the stars of my favorite childhood shows are dying. Bob Denver was 70.
I imagine he's now sleeping in the bottom hammock again, and occasionally being beaten with a hat by Alan Hale, Jr.
Or more likely, smoking a fat one with Jim Backus. Denver loved the reefer.
Even as a kid, I wondered how they could build all these contraptions but not patch the hole in the boat. Throughout my life, that pragmatic disposition has robbed me of SO much fun!

Even at 70, he still maintains a boyishness about him. Sad to see him go.
Easy question, Bug.
Sweet Lord above, I have always dreamed of being one element of a sort of Island Trifecta. I would keep them both in the hut for 12 hours a day with only brief breaks, during which they would argue over which of them I seem to enjoy most.
I know, the fact that he is gone now! Time flies sooooo fast. Gosh Gilligan looks old in that picture you posted.
The Professor was my favorite!
Most "kids" my age (74+ now, lots less, then) hoped to be on Gilligan's Island with Bob (and MaryAnn). Or to BE Bob.
Wow! Gilligan is no longer among us. Hopefully Wil Ferrel has good sense not to make the movie version...

Sigh.
Yeah, I always loved the sexy smartness of the Professor.
I felt a burning jealousy of Ginger, even in my little 9-yaer-old belly.
Now I am Ginger, so I don't mind so much--now I find Maryanne's overeagerness-to-please rather annoying (When I watch G.Island, which is...OK, every day. I got the boxed DVD set.).
Rest in peace, little buddy.
Damn. RIP Gilligan.
And, for the record, I always liked the Professor and wanted to be Mary Ann. Unfortunately my inherent Ginger-ness kept getting in the way.
I always wanted to be with that savage that always popped up out of nowhere on the island. Thought he was buff. You know the one... had the bone through his nose and feathers on his head and crotch.
I also always wanted Ginger's dresses. Maryann seemed like a suck-up, and the Professor just annoyed me and seemed wimpy (though I liked his smarts). The Howell's needed to be beaten to a pulp. I ended up marrying someone quite like the Skipper, many years later. Gilligan was just a charming, innocent "little boy" type, which could work for a short time if things really got desperate.
Having said all that, I did find myself quite saddened by this news yesterday.
I always wondered how they could make so much and not fix the boat too...glad to see that I was not the only one...wow, having these guys die is making me realize that I am not a kid anymore either (wish I could be but alas, not an option apparently).
